The Bad Newsletter is back – and it’s moving

Burning Garbage Open Dump Highway

Gidday. A nice short one today to let you know that the Bad Newsletter is back from hiatus, and will be publishing again semi-regularly at its new home, emilywrites.co.nz/badnewsletter.

Here’s the latest article:

Why I’m moving The Bad Newsletter

Because Emily Writes Weekly is a great home for it and Emily Writes is a good egg. We bonded over both having had gallbladder removal surgery, and since then we’ve become good friends, have collaborated on a number of stories, and now we’re working together. I’ve been helping out with her website since she moved from Substack, and now it makes sense for me to move The Bad Newsletter to her site, where it can enjoy a much bigger audience and a more regular publishing schedule.

If you’re a free subscriber to The Bad Newsletter or to Emily Writes, nothing changes for you except where the emails will get sent from, and where you can find new articles.

If you specifically do not want to get the Bad Newsletter, that’s OK! You can unsubscribe (or otherwise manage your subscription) with the button below:

If you want to support the incredible work that Emily does (including paying me for the tech and writing work I do with her) the best way to do that is via a paid subscription to EmilyWrites.co.nz

If you were wanting to support The Bad Newsletter specifically, the best way to do so is by donation. You can do that here:

For now, I’ll continue to maintain the Bad Newsletter archive here at

(I may also transfer it to Emily’s site at some point in the future, in which case I’ll put some redirects in place.)

And if you’re keen, I’m still writing (and loving) The Cynic’s Guide to Self-Improvement, which you can check out here:

I just finished a series in which I challenged myself to earn $10k in 30 days for my new business, which (surprising everyone including myself) I actually did!

You can also find me semi-regularly at David Farrier’s Webworm and even at the Spinoff sometimes.

Thanks for reading, and for supporting my work. I’m looking forward to doing a lot more of it.
